Be passionate about hair & beauty!
Capital Hair & Beauty has a close relationship with Brighton City College. On a regular basis, Capital Brighton works with the college on its Enrichment Days: short, one-day courses that are not required by the curriculum, but celebrate the students’ passions when it comes to hair and beauty. The college regularly celebrates its hair and beauty talent by holding a show. Here the college’s Hairdressing Tutor, Martin White, tells us about the reasoning behind this year’s show.
"This year our show had a Tribal theme – we are raising money for Macmillan Cancer support for which we hope to raise £10k over the next four to five years. Macmillan is building a centre in Brighton for cancer patients and my philosophy is, that every hairdressing student that has any involvement in the show as well as the make up and beauty students, will be able to walk past that building and know that they have in some way made a difference and contributed to the building of the centre. One in three families are affected by cancer, and it is a charity we are passionate about here at City College. The show itself takes a lot of planning but we usually only have one crazy dress rehearsal for it! We invite local salons and businesses as well as the general public," says Martin.
So, why do you choose Capital Brighton?
"We find the team at Capital Brighton to be organised, accommodating and always smiling! We have given them our kit business this year and we are now discussing enrichment days for the students with the modern retro styling course as well as the celebrity styling," Martin says.
Sophie Tanner, Manager of Capital Brighton, says:
"We were invited along to the charity event so myself, Emma and Sam went along. We were greeted with lovely nibbles made by the catering students and a glass of wine. The show itself was put together by the level 1, 2 and 3 students; their interpretation of tribal hair was fantastic. We were amazed at the level of skill and you could see the hard work they had put in! We supplied some of the prizes given to the winners and we were pleased to get a mention at the end!"
