The ‘New Normal’ Self-care - how to take care of yourself whilst also taking care of your clients.
We know it’s been a busy time for the hair & beauty industry, trying to manage the post-lockdown rush, so we’re sure you’re desperate for a little self-care yourselves! It’s so important to take time for yourself to rest, recuperate and be on you’re a-game for clients. We’ve collated a list of our favourite ways to zone out and reach zen to help you unwind, relax and rejuvenate – because you deserve a pamper just as much as your clients.
Relax
Hand Masks
With the introduction of COVID hygiene measures, such as frequent handwashing and sanitising, there comes a price to pay...increased dryness and sensitivity. Hand masks are a great way to trap in more moisture than traditional hand cream, and allows the ingredients to really get to work. We’re loving The Manicure Company hand masks for an intense boost of moisture. With four skin superheroes, this mask is our favourite hand saviour. Vitamin E and jojoba oil work together to help soothe and repair damaged and inflamed skin, while avocado oil provides a long-lasting hit of moisture, and nicotinamide tightens skin and improves a weakened skin surface.
Hair Masks
Chances are your hair hasn’t been seeing as much love since the re-opening of your business – it's easier to throw it up in a bun before a busy day! Take some time out for a hair mask this week and give your hair the love it deserves. We love Schwarzkopf BC hair masks for their huge range, with something to cater for every hair type. For an all-round moisturising boost, our favourite is the Schwarzkopf BC Hyaluronic Moisture Kick. It revives and moisturises thirsty hair and improves elasticity. Plus, the whole retail range is 3 for 2 at the moment. And, any extra masks you buy can be offered as a treatment to any clients who’s hair needs some extra love after 4+ months without a hairdresser.
Aromatherapy
While you let your hand and hair masks do their work, sit back, relax, and enjoy the 20 minutes to yourself. Using aromatherapy to help clear your mind is popular in spa situations, however, there’s no reason they can’t be used at home too. To help unwind and improve sleep, put a few drops of lavender and bergamot into your favourite oil burner or diffuser and enjoy the calming aroma. All of our Nature’s Way Aromatherapy Oils are 25% off at the moment, so experiment with your favourite scents and combinations.
Rejuvenate
Mask-acne
It's no secret that medical PPE face masks make people break out! They’re for our safety and the safety of those around us, but some have found their skin suffering. The best thing to do for skin that’s struggling is to strip back your skincare routine to a few simple steps. A good cleanser such as Kaeso’s Mulberry and Pomegranate Calming Cleanser will gently remove makeup and daily dirt while soothing and nourishing skin. Follow with a light moisturiser like Strictly Professional's Normal/Dry. Provided skin isn’t feeling too sensitive, a clay mask will help to cleanse deep into the pores to pull out toxins and leave skin feeling decongested, brighter and hydrated. Our pick is this Purifying 3D Clay Mask by Beauty Pro.
Lashes
When you’re feeling rushed off your feet making others feel great, sometimes finding the time to do your own makeup falls to the wayside. Plus, with tighter restrictions, remembering not to touch our face can be easier when we don’t have to worry about mascara smudging or fake lashes coming loose. If you’re struggling to find the balance, why not try a lash tint? It's quick and easy and means no need to top up throughout the day. Strictly Professional Lash Tint is 15% off at the moment and takes just 5 minutes to develop, easy!
Fake tan
Lack of foreign holidays this year and the weather not knowing if it's summer or autumn means there hasn’t been that much of a chance to build up a bronzed glow. Worry not, as White to Brown has launched an amazing self-tan kit for just £15. The kit includes self-tanning water, a moisturising coconut body spritz, a mitt and a very handy travel bag. Perfect for helping you fake it without having to leave the safety of your own home!
Home Manicure
The pièce de résistance to your relax and rejuvenate self-care routine has to be a home mani. Working evenings, weekdays AND evenings result in very little time to get your nails done yourself. Luckily for you, we have you covered. Gellux has 3 for 2 across their range for the month of September, as well as 20% off the Strictly Professional manicure range. We also have 20% off the Looks LED nail lamp, making it just £31.96.
We hope in these challenging times you’re able to find some time to yourself for some much needed self-care. Even if all you have is 20 minutes for a quick hand-mask, we’re sure your hands will thank you.
