New York Fashion Week trend-watch
The international fashion weeks always serve up inspiration and give us a hint as to what’s next when it comes to hair and beauty trends. We’ve rounded up some of the best trends from New York Fashion Week SS17, that you can take straight into the salon.Long and Loose
Seen at Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors, long, loose layers were one of the more effortless styles that we saw at NYFW. At Ralph Lauren, session stylists worked with the texture of each models’ hair, to ensure that nothing looked too done. With few products being used, the main focus was on giving the ends just a touch of separation.
At Michael Kors, hair icon Orlando Pita asked the models to sleep in damp hair the night before, so that their hair could look as natural as possible.Obviously, we’re not telling you to do the same with your clients, but there’s definitely something about this fresh take on ‘less is more’ for Spring.
Spring Brides Accessorise
One of the most talked-about SS17 shows was the beautiful Marchesa collection. The brief for the show was to work with natural texture and create two looks, depending on the models’ type of hair. Some were straight, swept back and sophisticated while others were more curly and voluminous; both looked stunning when adorned with decorative clips, and we think this trend will be huge for Spring brides.
Super Sleek
Slowly, but surely, the slicked back, almost wet-look trend is coming through to the high street, and we predict that by the time Spring rolls around, a lot more of your longer-haired clients will be happy to give this trend a go. Seen at Victoria Beckham, Carolina Herrera and Altuzarra, this look was all about slick simplicity. For Victoria Beckham’s show, the brilliant Guido Palau was in charge, and he said the key to the chic look was using heated tools, for control and of course, making the hair ultra straight. Poker straight hair has taken a back seat over the past year or so, but we predict a comeback for 2017.
