A Break From The Norm - The Yorkshire Chair

To start 2019 right we've got an inspiring salon for you; The Yorkshire Chair opened in August and it's already gaining a dedicated fan base thanks to it's ultra clean style. Here's how we helped owner Jonathan Ward create the look he wanted.


Is this your first salon?
"Yes, as an owner, but it's the third one that I've worked in as a barber."

 

What was your aim when it came to the look of the salon?
"Modern, clinical, contemporary." 

 

Did you have a clear idea of the actual look, colour scheme, etc?
"Yes, I tried to stick to a basic colour palette, complemented by some greenery. I knew that it would look great against the whitewashed walls of the salon. It's great for photos too!" 

 

What was the biggest challenge you faced with the revamp?
"When I got the keys in my hand I had seven weeks to turn the space into a salon."

 

Did you have a definite budget in mind? Did you stick to it?
"I made a conscious effort to monitor and stay within my budget." 

 

How did the Capital team help you when it came to making your vision a reality?
"A barber's chair is pivotal to the customer experience, in fact, to the whole look of the shop. Finding the right ones that I would have long-term was a priority and Capital really helped me in making the right choice, and for a great price." 

 

Top tip for someone wanting to revamp their salon?
"Stick to your guns with your vision! People will try to influence your direction, especially if it's different to the norm." 

 

What has been your clients' reaction to the look/style?
"Hugely positive. A lot of people acknowledged the contrast to the regional style of barber shops where I'm from, which means taking a risk has really paid off."
